Viva Frida Kahlo: Immersive Experience

Viva Frida Kahlo turns the Raumfabrik into a walk-in, wraparound canvas. Around 130 of the Mexican painter’s works are blown up to enormous scale using 3D-mapping projections that cover walls up to 34 metres long and spill across the floor. You move freely through the hall while a voice actor, speaking in Kahlo’s own words, guides you from the Casa Azul in Coyoacán – where the 18-year-old began painting after a devastating accident – through the self-portraits and nature symbols that defined her career from the 1920s to the 1940s. An original soundtrack runs underneath, and a short VR section unpacks the layers of symbolism in her art. The show doesn’t shy away from the physical pain and personal loss that shaped her work, but it is equally about vivid colour, Mexican folklore, and an unapologetic embrace of life. Afterwards, a recreated courtyard invites you to sit and let the impressions settle. Families with children from about 6 will find it engaging, though the 360‑degree room and VR element are recommended for ages 12 and up due to sensory intensity. The whole visit takes around 60 to 70 minutes, so it’s easy to fit into an afternoon or evening.
