The lineup ranges from classic big-top artistry to high-speed acrobatics. The 14-strong Mongolian teeterboard troupe Nomuna, winners of a Silver Clown in Monte Carlo, launch themselves into risky somersaults and towering human pyramids set to melodies from West Side Story. From France, the aerial duo Sweet Darkness perform a sensual and dizzying aerial ring choreography high above the ring. The Portuguese Dias Brothers bring icarian games – a discipline never before seen in Frankfurt – in which a base artist spins his partner through the air with his feet. Chilean juggler Sergio Paolo, a whirlwind of ball juggling and bouncing technique, and the knife- and crossbow-throwing Duo Jaster add further variety. The Saly Brothers mix rapid-fire bolas – traditional Argentine throwing balls – with energetic drumming and dance, while Natascha Wille presents horse dressage and Alfons Wille provides clownish interludes. An eight-piece live orchestra from Moldova, led by Petru Harata, accompanies every act with a range from classical to pop. On Christmas Eve, the circus hosts a closed performance for families in need, under the patronage of Lord Mayor Mike Josef. Companies looking for an unconventional Christmas party can book special packages on 7 and 8 December that include the show, a sparkling-wine reception and dinner. The blue-and-white tent palace seats 2,500 on numbered individual seats and includes a cosy foyer tent; vintage wooden showman carts reinforce the old-school circus atmosphere.
