About this event
The Städel Museum presents 'SurFace: On Skin', an exhibition that examines how artists have represented the human skin across centuries. Drawing from the museum's collection of prints and drawings, the show brings together over 60 works in various media including drawings, paintings, and sculptures. Artists range from Hans Baldung Grien, Raphael, and Titian to Auguste Rodin and Robert Mapplethorpe, highlighting different techniques and cultural perspectives on skin as both a physical boundary and a surface for identity and emotion.
