Mickey Bohnacker – Photographs 1945–1965

Over 100 black-and-white photographs from the estate of Frankfurt-born photographer Mickey Bohnacker (1928–2017) trace the city's transformation after 1945. Arranged in twelve chapters, the images cover politics, the return to democracy, NATO integration, reconstruction, the rise of the consumer society, cultural life, and the fascination with the American Way of Life. Bohnacker, who worked for US Army newspapers as a young man and even accompanied General Eisenhower, offers an intimate, sometimes humorous look at everyday life in a city reinventing itself. The exhibition also features historic film clips on media stations and two large city maps illustrating post-war urban development and the growth of American institutions in Frankfurt.
