Stadtgeschichten – Pieces from the Vault

About this event

Rather than a chronological tour, this exhibition digs into the museum’s own stores to bring out forgotten stories, curious objects, and pieces of memory that carry significance for Offenbach. The display draws on the dynamics of urban collecting and the often surprising biographies of the artefacts. What makes it different is the participatory setup: the curation is opened up to private collectors, who can contribute their own collections and personal memories on equal terms. The museum transforms from a place of mere preservation into a shared, democratic space of exchange. Throughout, the exhibition reflects on the act of collecting itself – why we hold on to things, what memories we choose to safeguard, and how these decisions shape a city's identity.
