About this event
The Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung presents a major exhibition dedicated to the pediment sculptures of the Parthenon on the Athenian Acropolis. For the first time, the research team led by Vinzenz Brinkmann has developed an archaeologically based proposal for a complete reconstruction of the east pediment figures, using 3D scanning and digital reconstruction. Over many years, they managed to assign numerous known fragments to individual figures, drawing on Roman sarcophagus reliefs. A scenic installation guides visitors step by step through the reconstruction process and the 200-year history of research. A specially developed animation lets the figures of the east pediment come to life. The show brings together outstanding loans from the British Museum, the Acropolis Museum in Athens, the Vatican Museums, the Louvre, and the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Venezia.
