Naturally 7 – Closer Look

About this event

What sounds like an electric guitar, bass, trumpet, trombone, harmonica and a full drum kit on stage is actually just seven vocalists. Naturally 7 – Rod Eldridge, Sean Simmonds, Warren Thomas, Ricky Cort, Roger Thomas, Dwight Stewart, and N’Namdi Bryant – have spent a quarter-century perfecting a style they call ‘vocal play’, where beatboxing, throat singing and layered harmonies mimic musical instruments so convincingly that listeners may forget they are hearing only voices. Their sound moves easily between R&B, soul, hip-hop, gospel, pop and rock. For this 25th-anniversary tour, titled ‘Closer Look’, the band serves up a kind of best-of setlist that includes spine-tingling covers like Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, Coldplay’s ‘Fix You’, Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’, and Sting’s ‘Englishman In New York’. Expect an evening of astonishing vocal technique, tight harmonic blends, and the kind of entertaining showmanship that earned them tours with Michael Bublé and spots on the Night of the Proms. Just be prepared: you’ll keep looking for the hidden instrument closet.
