About this event
Arthur Romanowski travels by train and Uber – from Frankfurt via Berlin, Szczecin, Gdańsk and Przemyśl to the Polish-Ukrainian border in Medyka. Along the way he meets a wide range of people and asks them: What are your experiences with war? Why is there war? What does peace need? Together with an ensemble of actors, live music and video art, he brings these interviews onto the stage and intertwines them with Alfred Jarry’s grotesque satire of power, ‘Ubu roi’. The result is an evening straddling fiction and reality, where the vulgar capriciousness of the fictional King Ubu suddenly feels very close. Jacob Bussmann provides original music, Liese Lyon acts and sings, and robotics technician Simon Lenßen and camera operator Talisa Frenschkowski expand the performance space. On the second evening there is an artist talk afterwards – a good chance to explore the thinking behind this unusual production.
