Robert Habeck: Arctic Meltdown

About this event

Robert Habeck, Germany's former Vice-Chancellor, presents his new book "Arctic Meltdown" at Schauspiel Frankfurt. The melting polar ice is opening up the region to competing claims: Habeck unpacks America's interest in Greenland, Russia's aggressive return to a 'Red Arctic', and China's push for a Polar Silk Road – all vying for shipping lanes and vast resources. He sketches the history of the Arctic, including its colonial exploitation by Denmark, and introduces the people who live there. The evening combines geopolitical analysis with on-the-ground reporting, offering a clear-eyed look at how the race for the north is reshaping the international order.
