About this event
Arthur Romanowski travelled by train and Uber through Poland and Germany, asking strangers about their experiences of war, why wars happen, and what peace would require. Those encounters are woven together with Alfred Jarry's grotesque satire 'Ubu roi', in which the vulgar Père Ubu and his wife seize power through bullying and murder. The production blends documentary, fiction, and live camera work, with actress and singer Liese Lyon and composer and performer Jacob Bussmann, plus a robot and a camera operator extending the stage picture into a collage that asks whether Jarry's satire has already arrived in our parliaments. The performance shifts between German, Polish, and French with German surtitles. On one evening, an artist talk follows the show. This is a piece for adults who enjoy political satire, documentary theatre, and experimental stagecraft.
