If you have ever wanted to look beyond the news pictures of Gaza, this programme offers twenty-two very personal, often surprising short films made by directors still living there. Shot between December 2023 and March 2024, each piece runs three to six minutes and uses whatever genre suits the story — fiction, documentary, docu-fiction, animation, or experimental film. The result is a mosaic of grief, stubborn resilience, fleeting joy and guarded hope, driven not by commentary but by the everyday texture of life during war. Initiated by Palestinian filmmaker Rashid Masharawi, the selection deliberately turns the camera towards the residents themselves. The evening opens with Remus Pittermann’s short “Verfolgt” (2023) and closes with a film discussion with Irit Neidhardt, a writer and curator specialising in Arab cinema, and Cornelia Spohn from naxos.Kino. The films are shown in original Arabic with German subtitles.
