About this event

Throughout both days, cooking and dining continue as an open invitation to gather around the table. The installation features nine Story Boxes holding the narratives of nine Chinese-speaking people from Hesse. Visitors can open the boxes, read their stories, and listen to voices sharing migration experiences and everyday life. Three special events deepen the connection between food and meaning: July Yang hosts “A Feast That Never Sits Still,” a dining tradition from Chinese village festivals where guests come and go in waves and dishes are served in unending succession. Sichi Li runs an “Unlucky Cookie” workshop — a playful twist on fortune cookies, where participants bake biscuits carrying different, less predictable messages. Yinfu Gao leads a Story Box workshop: together you fold printed sheets into three-dimensional boxes until an installation takes shape, and she opens her own box with spicy chicken feet, a snack from her hometown. Brave guests can accept the Spicy Chicken Feet Challenge.
