Aufmachen! Rethinking High-Rises

About this event

Frankfurt’s skyline is synonymous with progress, but what becomes of its towers when their original purpose vanishes? This exhibition argues that existing high-rises hold untapped potential as sustainable resources, lively places and open building blocks for tomorrow’s city. Repositioning means more than renovation: it means keeping structures intact while introducing mixed uses, adding greenery, boosting climate resilience and creating public functions that reconnect the buildings with the streetscape. Using real Frankfurt and Offenbach building typologies, the show invites visitors to imagine a more active, diverse and future-proof urban fabric. Ideas are communicated through architectural models, drawings, plans and large-scale photographs. The project is curated by a team from the engineering consultancy Arup together with the DAM, with exhibition design by the firm deserve.
