About this event
The core of the Wiesbaden Sternschnuppenmarkt fills Schlossplatz around the Marktkirche with more than a hundred wooden stalls. You will find crafts, Christmas decorations, leather goods, jewellery and small gift ideas, while over twenty food stands serve mulled wine, children’s punch, waffles, bratwurst and roasted almonds. When darkness falls, the market’s signature illuminated lilies – based on the Wiesbaden coat of arms – light up, giving the square a distinctive glow. A large nativity scene stands in front of the Christmas tree, traditionally depicted as the stable in Bethlehem. Families with children up to about primary-school age are well looked after at the Kindersternschnuppenmarkt on Luisenplatz, open until 30 December. On the Winterzauberbühne stage, craft sessions, Christmas storytelling and live music alternate throughout the day. The Sternschnuppen-Express mini train, a traditional children’s carousel and an enchanted woods full of glowing fairy figures create a storybook setting. Younger siblings will enjoy the carousel and the twinkling gnomes, while older kids can join in the craft activities or listen to the tales. After browsing the stalls, many visitors head to Mauritiusplatz for a ride on the 45-metre Ferris wheel, whose heated gondolas offer a panoramic view over the illuminated city centre. Next to the wheel, the Hessian WinterStubb serves regional specialities such as Handkäs with music, Ahle Wurst and hot apple wine, providing a cosy spot to warm up and end the evening. The Riesenrad and WinterStubb remain open until 11 January 2027, well beyond the main market’s closing date.
