Sonoma (The Film, Not the Performance)

About this event

What you see is a film that documents the making of 'Firmamento', a 2021 dance piece by the Spanish company La Veronal, led by choreographer Marcos Morau. Rather than a straightforward documentary, Sonoma mixes video and audio recordings of actual rehearsals with short fictional scenes inspired by the creative process, blurring the line between backstage reality and the surreal imagery that characterises Morau's work. The result feels less like a making-of and more like a companion piece to the stage production itself. You sit in the dark for 90 minutes, watching Spanish dialogue with English subtitles, and get drawn into a world where the discipline of dance practice meets dreamlike, often unsettling visuals. If you are curious about how highly physical, image-driven contemporary choreography is built, or if you have already seen La Veronal on stage and want to look deeper, this screening offers a focused, contemplative window into their practice.
