For its 15th anniversary, the Korean Film Festival Frankfurt explores 'jeong' – that untranslatable sense of profound emotional connection and everyday warmth that pervades Korean culture. Across 27 features and eleven short films, the programme spans blockuster action, indie drama, horror-thriller, romance and documentary, each film offering its own take on the ties that bind people. A special retrospective marks ten years of two genre benchmarks: Yeon Sang-ho's Train to Busan turns a zombie outbreak into a relentless ride while dissecting social tensions, and Na Hong-jin's The Wailing is a nightmarish, shamanism-laced epic about faith and destruction. As a fresh highlight, Na's latest sci-fi action work Hope can be seen on the big screen. Beyond the auditoriums, the 3rd Korea Culture Day (Saturday, free admission) brings Korean everyday culture to the jugend-kultur-kirche sankt peter. K-pop dance crews DASH and New Creation deliver punchy routines, while the Korean Dance Project from Berlin and Cologne's K-Yul present traditional dances and sounds. Live music comes from indie rock band Kukbap. You can join a haegeum (Korean fiddle) workshop or learn a K-pop routine, then browse stalls offering rice cakes, makgeolli tastings, full Korean dishes from Seoulmate, and desserts from Sip With Moa – completing a stamp rally even gets you a goodie bag.
