Perspektivwechsel #6 – Care or Code? Empathy in the Age of AI

At this sixth edition of the Perspektivwechsel series, Atelierfrankfurt brings together a Frankfurt-based artist, a philosopher from TU Darmstadt, and a social work professor from Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences to examine care in the age of artificial intelligence. Jordan Rita Seruya Awori, who works with performance, video, and text to question identity and belonging, contributes an artistic perspective on how technology reshapes our relationships. Philosopher Petra Gehring, known for her work on ethics and technology, and social scientist Barbara Klein, who researches care systems and organisational change, join the conversation to explore whether AI can truly alleviate care burdens, who bears responsibility in hybrid human-machine care networks, and what empathy even means when it is coded. Moderated by Heike Sütter, the evening follows a discussion format with room for audience questions, creating a relaxed yet intellectually charged atmosphere. The event is part of the “Take Care! – Festival of Solidarity and Resistance” organised by the Frankfurt Women’s Office, and drinks and snacks from the in-house canteen are available before and after the talk.
