The Frankfurt Civic Salon’s Forum Democracy series invites a broad audience to discuss the future of liberal democracy. In this talk, sociologist and political scientist Prof. Dr. Ulrike Ackermann – director of the John Stuart Mill Institute and author on freedom and civil society – asks whether liberalism has exhausted its political potential. She traces how liberal ideas are being challenged from outside Western democracies and from within, pointing to the electoral collapse of the German liberal party FDP as one symptom. The lecture outlines possible strategies for liberal forces to regain relevance, followed by an open discussion. A free livestream is available for those who cannot attend in person.
