About this event
Walk into a makeshift institute dedicated to the collective study of pain. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Schnabel and a team of performers, you move through different stations—an intimate conversation in a hospital bed, a game that uses a thumb press as a painkiller, or a chance to find a new language for your own aches. The whole visit is underscored by the live radio broadcast onPAIN.FM, which threads in topical music, anecdotes, and other forms of auditory pain research. The tone shifts between genuine care, mock-scientific investigation, and playful lightness. You might be asked what shoe size homesickness wears, how to talk about too-tight heels, or where exactly heartbreak resides. No previous experience with pain (or its absence) is required—the invitation is for the brave and the hesitant, the stoic and the big complainers alike. The two-hour installation can be left at any time; it’s a place to laugh, be moved, or simply listen to yourself. Because the hall is as cold as the air outside, dress warmly. The entire performance is in German; the intimacy of a shared language is part of the piece.
