About this event
The exhibition focuses on the painter and printmaker Johannes Heisig and his artistic engagement with the work of writer Wolfgang Hilbig. Although the two never met, their shared experiences of the GDR and the legacy of German division shape their exploration of origin, memory, and social transformation. Heisig translates Hilbig's literary themes and atmospheres into an independent visual language without merely illustrating the texts. Alongside well-known groups of works, the show premieres a new series created especially for the project. Books, documentary material, and audio and film recordings offer further perspectives on the interplay between literature and visual art. The exhibition is complemented by a varied supporting programme during the Frankfurt Book Fair.
