About this event
At the heart of the exhibition is the Städel Museum's own 'The Little Garden of Paradise' (ca. 1410–20), a remarkably detailed panel painting that blends religious symbolism with courtly life and a striking closeness to nature. The show places this work in the broader artistic and historical context of Europe around 1400, a time of upheaval and exchange, and brings together around eighty outstanding loans from major museums including the National Gallery in Washington, the Louvre, and the Rijksmuseum. Featuring paintings by Jan van Eyck, the Master of Flémalle, and Pisanello, as well as sculptures and drawings, the exhibition is complemented by a walk-in immersive installation by Berlin artist Philipp Fürhofer that reinterprets the garden theme.
