God is going through a severe depression and is on the verge of annihilating himself – and all of creation. Under the cryptic initial “G”, he turns up at the office of pragmatic, single-mother psychologist Ela and demands a therapy session, or else he threatens suicide. Ela has just sixty minutes to overcome her own inner conflict, change his mind, and save the world. Anat Gov’s comedy blends existential depth with sharp, witty dialogue in an intimate chamber-play format. The Israeli playwright – whose works have won international acclaim – tackles the age-old relationship between humanity and the divine, while casually slipping in a few Old Testament lessons. “Oh My God!” was selected by the European Theatre Convention in 2010 as one of the 120 best contemporary European plays. The New Year’s Eve performance on 31 December features an extended programme, turning the evening into a special year-end celebration.
