Terry Jones, a fixture of European modern soul since 1969, headlines alongside Malayka Erpen from Bamberg's SoulShakers weekender and Thierry Boulanger from Brussels. Erpen favours 70s and 80s soul, jazz funk, island funk and boogie, while Boulanger pushes a driving 80s modern soul sound that also defines his 'Disco Giants' compilation series. Frankfurt locals Atze Knauf and Matthias Westerweller, organisers of the Uptight Soul Weekend, round out the line-up with a varied mix of deep cuts and dancefloor staples. The intimate, air-conditioned Romanfabrik in the Ostend provides a bar and a space focused squarely on the music. Expect a journey from classic sixties soul through obscure seventies funk to current neo-soul – a night built for vinyl lovers who want to dance.
