The Weight of Tending

Choreographer and performer Patscharaporn Distakul unpacks a family archive in this quiet, auto-fictional solo. Growing up between Thailand, Italy and Germany, she translates everyday rituals, dances and gestures into a physical language that questions how migration and cultural inheritance settle in the body. The piece weaves together fading memories of her nearly 100-year-old grandfather with her own experiences, creating a layered conversation between past and present. Live musician Max Masahiro Levy accompanies the movement with a score that draws on the sonic textures of Distakul's childhood, while the choreography stays close to domestic routines – washing, carrying, arranging – that slowly reveal a larger meditation on belonging and Western projections onto Thai identity. The performance is intimate, spoken in English and Thai, and unfolds in about 50 minutes at Frankfurt LAB.
