About this event
In the Mousonturm Saal, nine dancers from Lia Rodrigues Companhia de Danças unfold a captivating choreography about the ambiguity of borders. The Portuguese word “borda” can mean border or threshold, but also seam or embroidery – it refers to what divides, yet also to what creates connection. Rodrigues, who has been intertwining dance with social engagement at the Centro de Artes da Maré in Rio de Janeiro for over three decades, sees dance as a tool to question social reality and to invent new ways of living together. In “Borda”, bodies, material, and movement transform into fleeting landscapes where intimacy and distance, community and alienation are constantly being redefined. The soundtrack blends fragments of a 1938 folk recording from northern Brazil with contemporary soundscapes, giving the piece an evocative density. The performance lasts about 80 minutes without any spoken text, so it is accessible regardless of language. On 10 November an artist talk with the company follows the show, and on 11 November there is a pre-show audience warm-up. “Borda” is the Spotlight production of Tanzfestival Rhein-Main 2026 and a powerful invitation to reflect on what separates us and what draws us together.
