About this event

Otfried Preußler’s beloved children’s book comes to the Schauspielhaus stage in a lively production directed by Henner Kallmeyer. Lotte Schubert plays the 127-year-old little witch who, after being caught dancing with the big witches on Blocksberg, is given a year to prove she can be a ‘good witch’. With her clever raven Abraxas (Eva Maria Nikolaus) at her side, she sets out on a year-long journey full of magic, mischief and unexpected challenges. The ensemble brings a host of colourful characters to life — from the grumpy Muhme Rumpumpel to the strict Oberhexe — often with quick changes and a generous dose of physical comedy. Live music by Sebastian Maier, performed on stage by Max Mahlert, gives the production a warm, playful musical layer that supports the story without overwhelming it. Lydia Merkel’s stage design and Silke Rekort’s costumes create a whimsical world that feels both handmade and inviting. The show is designed for children aged 5 and up, but Preußler’s wit and the cast’s playful energy make it a treat for the adults in the room as well. After the premiere performance there’s a children’s disco in the foyer, so young theatre-goers can boogie off their post-show excitement.
