Romantic Christmas Market at Bad Homburg Castle

The market winds through the grounds and inside the walls of the Landgrafen Schloss, where the old castle courtyard and inner baileys become a cosy Christmas backdrop. Along the narrow lanes you’ll find stalls selling regional artisan crafts: hand-carved wooden figures, crocheted cuddly toys, quirky pottery, Herrnhuter stars, hand-bound leather books and stitched bags. Food ranges from classic bratwurst, tarte flambée and winery mulled wine to an Icelandic salmon burger and Nordic drinks, plus roasted chestnuts, waffles and sugared almonds. For children there is a merry-go-round and a genuine narrow-gauge steam train that puffs and toots its way around the foot of the White Tower. In the first Advent weekend a stall offers collectible dolls and gnomes; later weekends bring different vendors, so repeat visitors can discover something new. The stone walls, warm lighting and traditional hut decor create a calm, traditional atmosphere without feeling overblown. On opening evening the market and Christmas tree are formally inaugurated.
