Gebhard Ullmann – Das Kondensat

About this event

The Berlin-based trio around saxophonist Gebhard Ullmann merges analogue and digital sound worlds into an improvised story in eleven chapters. Ullmann, who has been shaping modified saxophone tones for decades, threads his soprano and tenor through dense and airy spaces with the help of a looper and sampler. Oliver Potratz lays down a darkly looming foundation with his electric bass or lifts off into delicate, melodic lines. Eric Schaefer propels the performance with urgent, dynamic drumming and adds a modular synthesizer to the texture. The music moves beyond orthodox jazz: rock-inflected, punchy sections alternate with more ballad-like moments, while electronic soundscapes meet live improvisation. Anyone keen on electro-acoustic experimentation and keen to be surprised by live electronics and modified instrumental sounds will find plenty to enjoy.
