Under the title ‘The Mind will have its Freedom’, the evening moves from the spare, almost aphoristic miniatures of György Kurtág’s Játékok to the intimate diary-like world of Schubert’s Four Impromptus D 899, and finally to the monumental ‘Hammerklavier’ Sonata – Beethoven’s radical, symphonic explosion of the piano sonata form that still sounds shockingly modern today. Gorini approaches this repertoire not only with technical command but with a storyteller’s instinct, treating the concert as a meditation on artistic autonomy and risk. There is no easy listening here: the music demands attention and rewards it with a rare intensity. The setting, the elegant baroque hall of the Holzhausenschlösschen, provides an ideal backdrop for an evening where grand ideas are channelled through one pianist and a single instrument.
