Frankenstein Halloween

Over several weekends in October and early November, the ruins of Königstein Castle in the Taunus hills are turned into a large-scale horror walk. Costumed performers take on the roles of vampires, zombies, werewolves, murder dolls, witches and horror clowns, occupying themed scare zones that you explore at your own pace. The zones include a werewolf forest, a vampire crypt and a dystopian end-time world in the style of ‘The Purge’. The organisers call this a ‘full-contact event’ – the monsters get physically close, so the encounters are designed to be as physical as they are psychological. A festival meadow below the upper castle houses a main stage with a programme that repeats through the evening, along with food and drink stalls. The night closes with a stage finale involving music, dancing and an unmasking of the monsters. Sunday afternoons (18, 25 October and 1 November, 2–6 pm) offer a toned-down children's programme for families with kids aged roughly 6 and above.
