This double bill brings together two choreographic voices linked by more than twenty years and a shared dance history. William Forsythe’s widely performed 2002 piece “N.N.N.N.” is paired with the world premiere of “Body Me” by Cyril Baldy – a dancer who was part of the original cast of Forsythe’s work and now responds to it as a choreographer. In “N.N.N.N.” the dancers’ audible breath, minute impulses and precise coordination create a quartet that behaves like a single living instrument. Four performers stay in constant, quiet connection; their bodies become independent voices that rub against one another, complement one another, and generate an intense, almost musical state. “Body Me” starts from the idea that the bodies of the other players are the raw material. Movement is not privately invented but observed, touched, borrowed and reinterpreted. Solos slip into duets, duets into group scenes – intimacy and distance alternate as the body becomes material and meaning, physical fact and screen onto which closeness and distance are projected. Instead of following a linear story, the evening asks how movement is passed on and how dance is constantly remade.
