About this event
Composer Jagoda Szmytka’s Gardens of Songs is a newly commissioned, evening-length work for quartet that explores the relationship between art and nature. Drawing on the gardens of historical figures like Daisy von Pless and the botanical research of Maria Sibylla Merian, the piece weaves together experimental vocal techniques, electric guitar, and piano. Szmytka’s own series of garden journals are projected spatially throughout the Naxoshalle, creating an immersive visual environment that frames the musicians. The world premiere features soprano Maja Bader, mezzo-soprano Helēna Sorokina, electric guitarist Samuel Toro Pérez, and pianist Leonhard Dering.
