Autumn Holiday Programme at Adventure Playground Riederwald

About this event

The Riederwald adventure playground is a roughly 5,000 sq m site in the woods with trees, earth, sand, water and fire, plus boards, ropes, tarpaulins and real tools. Instead of ready-made play equipment, children build and experiment for themselves, with staff on hand to give help and hand out materials. During the autumn holidays the site is open from 10:00 to 18:00, and a themed programme for children aged 6 to 14 runs from 14:00 to 18:00. Week one starts with woodworking, followed by a fire day, bannocks (flatbread cooked over the fire), toasting bread on sticks, and Native American-inspired games. Saturday 10 October is free play. Week two covers modelling with clay, experiments with a hot-air balloon, potatoes baked in the embers and another round of stick bread. The programme ends on Friday 16 October with the playground sleepover, which starts at 14:00 and needs advance registration by phone. The organisers also say extras such as sleepovers, trips and bike tours must be booked and paid for in advance. Expect muddy, smoky, outdoorsy fun rather than a polished show. It suits school-age kids who like building, fire and getting their hands dirty.
