ARD New Year's Eve Concert

Music director Alain Altinoglu, a Paris native with a deep feel for the French repertoire, brings the spirit of his home country to the hr-Sendesaal. Soloist Alena Baeva, admired for her nuanced tone and technical flair, performs Saint-Saëns' "Introduction et Rondo capriccioso" and the sultry "Havanaise". The evening moves from the fiery overture to Bizet's Carmen, through Milhaud's Brazilian-tinged orchestral fantasy "Le Bœuf sur le toit", to the exotic Bacchanale from Samson et Dalila. Offenbach's ballet suite "Gaîté parisienne" rounds things off with wit and bounce. The concert lasts about two hours including an interval and bids farewell to the old year on a light French note – a festive outing for anyone who enjoys classical music in an elegant setting.
