About this event

The programme unfolds the accordion’s tonal range from baroque to the present day. The first half belongs to Sergey Sadovoy alone: intricate Bach preludes and fugues, a bright Scarlatti sonata, Albéniz’s fiery “Asturias”, and the rhythmically driving Sonata No. 1 by contemporary composer Vyacheslav Semionov. After the interval he is joined by Andrey Sokolvak, and the two accordionists turn Vivaldi, Mozart, and Schubert into transparent chamber music, gathering orchestral momentum in Vivaldi’s “Summer” and “Winter” movements and Khachaturian’s “Sabre Dance”. The clear resonance of the Dreikönigskirche lends extra presence to the instrument’s dynamic shading and register colours – an evening for anyone curious to hear classical works in an unexpected, intimate instrumentation.
