About this event
The talk unpacks the site-specific group exhibition “In A Silent Way,” unfolding in several episodes across the open-air grounds of the SCHIRN in Bockenheim. Episode two brings together three works that respond to wind, daylight, winter weather and the darkness of the season. Denise Mawila’s installation “Prise” engages with air movement, Ian Waelder’s facade piece “Self Portrait As My Father’s Nose” is built from papier-mâché casts of a clay sculpture by his father, and Paul Spengemann’s nocturnal laser projection “spin jump crawl climb dream bite hunt” plays with the rhythms of day and night. Curators Theresa Dettinger and Matthias Ulrich discuss the concept together with the three artists, explaining how ephemeral and fragile environmental phenomena are turned into aesthetic experience. Conducted in English and lasting about an hour, the talk is free of charge – a straightforward way to get under the skin of contemporary outdoor sculpture.
