About this event
The Tyrone family looks ordinary enough at first: father James, a former actor, mother Mary, and their sons Jamie and Edmund spend the summer in their holiday home. Over the course of one long day, however, the carefully constructed surfaces crack wide open. Through alcohol-fuelled arguments and desperate attempts at closeness, the four dig into layers of memory, disappointment, and unprocessed pain. Eugene O'Neill poured his own family history into this posthumously premiered work, confronting guilt, addiction, and the search for understanding. Director Max Lindemann, known for digging into the complex emotional worlds of his characters in works like 'Phädra in Flammen' and 'Süßer Vogel Jugend', brings a sharply sensitive eye to the piece. The production features Heidi Ecks and Uwe Zerwer as Mary and James Tyrone, Christoph Bornmüller as Jamie, and Miguel Klein Medina as Edmund. On 15 and 29 October, a short pre-show introduction (19:00) offers context before the 19:30 curtain. The play deals with substance abuse and family trauma; the theatre provides detailed content warnings and can be contacted for specific trigger information.
