Jochen Rückert New Quartet

Drummer Jochen Rückert, known as a sideman with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Fred Hersch and other modern jazz heavyweights, has assembled a New York City quartet around two decades younger than himself. On trumpet is Alexandra Ridout, who won the Next Jazz Legacy Award at 24 and earned the soloist prize at the Keep an Eye International Jazz Award for her lyrical tone. Tenor saxophonist Kevin Sun, a Brooklyn-based improviser with more than eight albums, brings virtuosic soloing, while bassist Hamish Smith locks down the groove with a robust feel that recently caught the ear of Paquito D’Rivera. The evening is presented by Jazz-Initiative Frankfurt in the intimate basement concert hall of St. Bonifatius Church in Sachsenhausen. Expect interplay that balances the bandleader’s deep experience with the energy of rising stars, in a setting where the music – alternately delicate and driving – takes centre stage.
