About this event
Basma Hallak reads from her Kranichstein fellowship novel “Please Unfollow” and discusses the consequences of failing to protect children and young people on social media. The story centres on 17-year-old Sherry, who grows up as part of the YouTube family “The Whites” and sees her entire childhood turned into content. After a breakdown and a criminal offence, she enters a rehabilitation programme, where she wrestles with who owns her body, her story and her image. The event is aimed at school classes from year 8 upwards and is held in cooperation with the Arbeitskreis für Jugendliteratur, the Junge Literaturhäuser and the Deutscher Literaturfonds.
