Yulianna Avdeeva, who in 2010 became the first woman since Martha Argerich to win the Warsaw International Chopin Competition, brings an evening of solo piano that balances fire and intellect. The programme opens with the sunny precision of Bach’s Italian Concerto, then moves through Beethoven’s improvisatory Fantasia in B major to the stormy 'Appassionata' sonata. After the interval, Ravel’s music takes over: the delicate Pavane, the shifting moods of the Valses nobles et sentimentales, and the vertiginous concert version of La Valse. Rather than showy stagecraft, the night offers the pure acoustic of the Mozart Saal and a close-up view of a pianist known for pairing deep structural thinking with vivid, spontaneous phrasing.
