About this event
A weekend celebration of railway history at the Darmstadt-Kranichstein Railway Museum. The festival kicks off on Friday evening with a special "Blue Hour" photography session where the museum grounds and historic locomotives are dramatically lit after dark — an exclusive experience limited to 50 participants with pre-registration required. Saturday and Sunday open the museum to everyone with a full programme: steam, diesel, and electric locomotives on display, footplate rides, blacksmithing demonstrations with glowing bolts, a historic wheel lathe in action, mechanical signal box demonstrations, large model railway layouts, and insights into the planned new ICE depot next door. Kids can ride a miniature railway behind real steam and electric locos, burn off energy on a locomotive-shaped bouncy castle, and try their hand at rail sawing. Coffee, cake, cold drinks, and grilled food are available throughout the weekend, with plenty of benches around the open-air grounds to sit back and watch the trains.
