About this event

Peter Handke's 1966 text 'Selbstbezichtigung' (Self-Accusation) is a long monologue that confesses to breaking all manner of rules – from the rules of life, love and art, to everyday prohibitions. The play celebrates human imperfection and the wilful pleasure of breaking free from prescribed norms. In this production at the Naxoshalle, directed by Michael Weber for the Frankfurt-based independent company Theater Willy Praml, the text is delivered by six performers: Jakob Gail, Muawia Harb, Birgit Heuser, Anna Staab, Elin Staab and Eleonora Gobena Wolf. Weber also designed the set and adaptation; costumes are by Paula Kern, lighting by Simon Möllendorf. The ninety minutes without interval offer a concentrated listening experience, allowing the audience to recognise themselves in the multitude of spoken self-accusations – a poetic counterpoint to the pressure to optimise and polish one’s public image.
