About this event
In this intimate dance performance by Pauline Michel and Vilma Ehnberg, two women kneel on a black dance carpet, their faces hidden by hair. What begins as a tableau of weariness soon shifts: set to a soundtrack that moves between hard rock and ambient sound by Szymon Wójcik, the performers embody tectonic forces – colliding, folding, drifting apart, and rolling uphill together. The piece explores how weight, both physical and mental, can become a shared source of strength rather than a burden. The 45-minute work uses English spoken language, strobe lighting, and a raw physicality that brings the audience close to the performers. Beanbags and seating replace formal theatre rows, creating an informal, immersive atmosphere. The choreography doesn’t shy away from the heaviness of stress and resource-exhausted times, but it transforms that heaviness into a motor for movement, with moments of quiet poetry and explosive release. Part of the Tanz⁵ festival of Frankfurt’s independent dance scene, Rock Bottom is ideal for anyone curious about contemporary dance that feels grounded in the body and honest about life’s weight. Go alone or with a friend, and pay what you can – the door is open to all.
