The evening brings together two works by Argentine composer and conductor Martín Palmeri: a Christian mass, the „Misa a Buenos Aires“, and a Jewish cantata built as a cycle of variations on Yiddish and Hebrew songs. Palmeri himself conducts the Quartier Ensemble, a group known for passionate expressiveness and a vivid stage presence. The musical language fuses sacred tradition with a modern, tango-inflected idiom, shaped by the sound of a bandoneón and a warm mezzo-soprano voice. What results is a multi-layered sound world where liturgical depth meets tango’s rhythmic bite. The Hebrew and Yiddish melodies of the cantata offer a distinct spiritual perspective, while the mass returns to the Latin liturgy. Throughout the evening, these two traditions are not merely placed side by side but drawn into a genuine musical conversation – reflective, moving and rich in atmosphere.
