About this event
For over twenty years, Theatre Willy Praml has staged the Christmas story as an intimate, unironic play in the cavernous Naxoshalle. Directed by Willy Praml, the production weaves the four Gospels into a gripping tale of political upheaval, fear of lost power, and the births of two boys – Jesus and John. The production draws its staging from Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper: a cast of twelve, spanning generations and mixing professionals with amateurs, tells the story. One of the mos striking images is the crucifix lighting up in the industrial monument at the moment of Jesus’ birth – a foreshadowing of human destiny that sets the tone early on. English surtitles make the performance accessible to non-German speakers. The raw atmosphere of the three-nave industrial basilica creates a decidedly unsentimental Christmas experience, far from gilded church interiors.
