About this event
Julia Beerhold‘s documentary tells the story of her own family: during the post-war economic miracle, her parents beat and humiliated her and her brother while simultaneously claiming to love them. As an adult, Beerhold returns to her childhood home, breaks the silence with her mother, and confronts the violence that happened behind closed doors. The 79-minute film moves between past and present, examining guilt, forgiveness, and the longing to break free from destructive patterns. The screening is followed by a talk with Tanja Dietz (Goethe University Frankfurt, childhood and family research) and Anna Sica-Ott (Kinderschutzbund Frankfurt, counselling for victims of childhood violence), hosted by Christina Budde. This is a quiet, serious evening that goes deeper than a typical movie night – it’s for people who want to understand how family trauma and post-war upbringing still shape lives today.
