About this event

Throughout the Frankfurt Book Fair, the LiteraturBahnhof opens its doors for a series of free literary events highlighting contemporary Czech writing. The programme begins with a Sunday morning introduction to the Czech literary landscape by Martin Krafl, programme director of Czechia 2026, and Prof. Tomáš Kubíček, director of the Moravian Library. They are joined by author Bianca Bellová, whose novel ‘Der unsichtbare Mann’ uncovers buried family histories. From Wednesday to Saturday, the Haus des Buches hosts daily “Guest Country Hour” sessions, each presenting two Czech voices in conversation and reading. The lineup ranges from established names like Jiří Kratochvil, a master of postmodern narrative, to younger talents such as Emma Kausc and Marek Torčík, whose works grapple with love, loss and the weight of the past. Jaroslav Rudiš brings his latest novel ‘Wo die Toten sprechen’, a story revolving around a mysterious death and collective memory. All texts are performed in German by actor Christoph Pütthoff, making the literature directly accessible. The events are free and you can drop in for a single hour or stay for several sessions. Whether you are a seasoned reader of Czech literature or simply curious about what’s being written just a few hours away, the LiteraturBahnhof offers an unpretentious chance to discover new stories.
