FMW Farewell Reception

After 42 years of shaping Frankfurt's jazz and music scene, the FMW Frankfurter Musikwerkstatt closed its vocational training programme in May 2026. This reception at the Romanfabrik brings together former students, teachers, cooperation partners, and supporters to celebrate the school's history and community. Throughout the afternoon, there will be live music contributions from FMW alumni, offering a taste of the talent that passed through its doors. The event also includes speeches and an overview of the school's milestones, from its founding by Michael Demmerle in 1984 to its state recognition in 1993 and the hundreds of graduates who went on to professional careers. It's a warm, reflective gathering rather than a loud party – a chance to reconnect and honour a private institution that provided high-quality jazz education without public funding. The invitation is extended primarily to the FMW network, but anyone with an interest in local music history is likely welcome.
