About this event

This concert is a direct outgrowth of Ensemble Modern's residency at the Prague Offspring festival. Conducted by Ukrainian Ustina Dubitsky, Frankfurt's leading new-music ensemble dedicates an entire evening to Czech and Slovak composers. The programme spans five works written between 1965 and 2025, most of them Frankfurt premieres. The historical anchor is Marek Kopelent's 'Homage to Vladimír Holan', a dense, serious salute to a key figure of the Czech post-war avant-garde. Against this stand younger voices like Pavel Šabacký, Barbora Tomášková and Slavomír Hořínka, whose pieces bristle with rhythmic energy, nocturnal sound-painting, and a playful experimental streak. After the concert, the Open Foyer invites you to stay for a drink and chat with the evening's performers — an informal chance for anyone curious about what they just heard.
