About this event
Two ensembles meet to build a musical bridge between the Arab-Andalusian court music of medieval Spain and the deep, bluesy strains of Greek rebetiko. Aman Rebetiko, led by Alkis Zopoglou, brings the heartfelt amanés and the intricate sound of the Turkish kanunn, while Ensemble Andalusí del Mediterraneo — featuring singer Hamid Ajbar, fiddle, Arabic kannun and darbouka — evokes the delicate layāli born in Granadas Alhambra. The evening unfolds as a melodic conversation across centuries and coastlines, shaped by the maqam traditions that link North Africa, the Levant and the Aegean. A post-concert artist talk (ca. 30 minutes) follows the performance, and a free pre-event discussion "Music of the World" takes place on 4 December at the Ammt für Multikulturelle Angelegenheiten.
